SMILE Markham
In a rapidly growing city like Markham, residents should not have to sacrifice safety, livability, or quality of life. City Hall should be responsive, supportive, efficient, and full of opportunity. That is the heart of our SMILE Markham: bringing stronger service, better support, and more reasons to smile to every resident.

Friendly City Hall

Detailed Version
I will work to:
Support a review of permit timelines, application steps, by-law requirements, service standards, and communication with applicants.
Push for clearer "Timeline based" public information so business owners understand what documents are needed, who is responsible, and how long the process should take according to various stages of each case assigned timeline.
Advocate for plain-language guides for common business needs, including permits, signs, patios, renovations, occupancy, licensing, and zoning questions.
Encourage a single-window support approach so entrepreneurs are not passed from department to department without clear answers.
Create regular business feedback channels to hear directly from local shops, restaurants, professionals, start-ups, manufacturers, and technology companies.
Identify common delays and red tape that discourage responsible investment, job creation, and small business growth.
Support local businesses by promoting Markham as a city of talent, diversity, education, technology, international connections, and opportunity.
Encourage stronger coordination between economic development, planning, permits, transportation, and infrastructure so business growth is practical and well-supported.
Push for better after-care for businesses that invest in Markham, so they continue to feel supported after opening or expanding.
Ask for better value, better service, and better results before asking residents and businesses to pay more.
